Herts and Essex Observer
The Herts and Essex Observer was first published on April 6, 1861, under the title of the Bishop’s Stortford Observer before the name was changed to the Herts and Essex Observer a year later. A rival publication, the Bishop’s Stortford Gazette, was merged with the Observer shortly after its launch. It is a paid-for newspaper published every Thursday and covers an area focused on Bishop’s Stortford, taking in surrounding towns and villages, including, Sawbridgeworth, Dunmow and Saffron Walden.
